How to Play Like a Pro

Match, Swap, and Outsmart that Crazy Cousin from Texas

  • Setup:

    • Use a standard 52-card deck.

    • Two to six players.

    • Deal 5 cards each. ( 7 cards if only 2 players).

    • Place the remaining deck face down as the draw pile.

  • Gameplay:

    • The top card of the draw pile is flipped to start the discard pile.

    • The player to the left of the dealer goes first.

    • Play an eight to change the current suit—use it wisely!

    • If you can’t play, draw a card from the deck and try again.

    • Continue clockwise until a player gets rid of all their cards.

  • Scoring:

    • When a player goes out (plays all their cards), the round ends.

    • All other players add up the points in their hands. Typical point values are:

      • Number cards (2–9): face value (2–9 points)

      • 10, Jack, Queen, King: 10 points each

      • 8s: 50 points each (since they’re wild and powerful)

      • Ace: 1 point (sometimes optional, depending on house rules)

    • The winner of the round earns the total points from all other players’ hands.

    • You can play a single round or keep a running total across multiple rounds. The player with the highest total after a set number of rounds (or reaching a target score, e.g., 100 points) wins the game.
