How to Play Like a Pro

Outsmart Your Cousin, Reclaim Family Glory

  • Setup:

    • Use a standard 52-card deck.

    • Remove one queen so there’s an odd number of cards.

    • Shuffle and deal all the cards out evenly. Some players might get one more card than others—no biggie!

  • Match & Discard:

    • Everyone looks at their hand and discards any pairs (two cards of the same rank—like two 8s or two Kings).

    • No triples or four-of-a-kinds allowed—just pairs!

  • Start Drawing:

    • The player to the dealer’s left fans their cards face down for the person to their left.

    • That player randomly picks one card.

    • If it makes a new pair, they discard it.

    • The game moves clockwise. Draw, match, discard, repeat!

  • Watch for the Old Maid:

    • Since there’s one queen with no match, someone’s gonna get stuck.

    • Keep playing until all the pairs are gone and one single, unmatched card remains.

  • The Twist:

    • Whoever ends up with the unmatchable queen—the infamous Old Maid—loses the round.

    • Everyone else? Winners. 🎉
